Figgy v1.0.0 - Initial Release! 🎉
Welcome to Figgy v1.0.0!
Hey everyone, welcome to the first release of the library!
How It Started
Figgy started around 5 years ago with something called the “knobs and levers” development design approach - something I learned while working on one of my first big projects at Gutpunch Studios.
“Knobs and levers” is all about making every gameplay value exposed and fully configurable, giving designers full control over game tuning and balancing without ever touching code.
What It Is Now
That idea eventually grew into what Figgy is today: a pure GML, lightweight, fully open-source configuration system built to centralize all your gameplay values and let you tune your game live. Instead of digging through assets, recompiling, or wiring up debug UI, you define your parameters once and Figgy automatically generates a full live-editing interface using GameMaker’s Debug Overlay. All changes persist in your project’s datafiles, letting you keep configs directly inside your GitHub repo.
This workflow completely changed how I work with my teams. Once a config set is integrated, designers get full control over balancing. They just tweak values through the interface, hit save, push to GitHub, and let me know when they’re done. There’s no more screenshots, manual updates, or waiting on me. Iteration becomes fast, clean and painless.
So whether you’re solo or working with a team, on a massive project or a weekend jam, Figgy keeps iteration quick and gives non-programmers full design control without touching code.
Hope you have a great time using it! And if you do, a 5-star rating on Itch, a star on GitHub, and a follow on both would be greatly appreciated!
Anyway, get out there and Figgyre your games out :)
